The most common and in the UK , Lasius Niger also known as the black garden ant. Often found running along your patio and nesting underneath the slabs.
Lasius are the perfect species for beginners as they are very hardy and forgiving to mistakes.

Lasius Niger are actually one of the most aggressive species in the UK but due to their size and inability to sting they don’t posses a risk to us or larger animals. This doesn’t mean that they won’t swarm smaller insects in the hundreds and overpower them though!
