Messor Arenarius - The Giant Harvester
One of the largest messor species found in the world. Queens are found in SouthAfrica and are 18-22mm! Majors can reach around 18mm! Queens are fully claustral and won’t need seeds until first workers arrive, temperatures are best around 24c to 27c. Humidity requirements at 50-70% with an area for dry seed storage. Messor Arenarius are lone foragers and won’t be seen in swarms, there not a predator by any means but will defend when needed. It is not uncommon to see the queen get involved in a threat either! She’ll continue to protect the colony until the first majors arrive.
